What makes a ‘good day’ at a childcare center?

Both the caregivers and the children are healthy, safe, happy throughout the day

What’s the best/worst thing about being a childcare worker (RECE or Assistant)?

A few of the best things are witnessing and contributing to the positive development of the children; building good relationship with the children, their families and the main teachers in the centre; and also having the opportunity to grow professionally. The worst thing is that sometimes, the work of childcare workers may be undervalued or not fully recognized for its importance in early childhood development.

How do you remember all of the children’s names?

I try my very best to have genuine interest in each child. I also repeat their names as the teachers introduce them and create a mental association with their distinctive features, interests or characteristics. I check their cubbies and trays with their their names, things and photos are displayed.

What current trends are baffling to you? Why?

Engaging parents as partners in their child’s education and development is challenging as parents are always busy in their own jobs.
